Yoga… a body holiday
Why are we doing yoga?… No motivation, no aims, only an agreeable appointment for the body to look forward to. We do it for the fun of it. To twist, stretch, and move around, is pleasant and enjoyable, a body holiday.”
Vanda Scaravelli
My focus these days is to encourage work within personal ranges of motion, and to cultivate awareness in the body. I have found over the years that it is easy to go into asanas with very little awareness. Also, when we push ourselves and work in a state of pain, we are teaching the body that it’s ok to be in pain… not the truth. Sometimes it’s more effective to pull back and observe what is happening in every part of the body. Really becoming present in the body leads to a pain free practice and lifestyle.
Yoga started in the mountains of the Himalayas. There were no pictures or videos or teachers, no lululemon pants or sticky mats. Asanas were invented through feeling the breath and energy pathways in the body. In my practice I enjoy feeling, and gaining freedom in my body.
